Recap: January, February – time is flying!

It’s been a few weeks since I
have been able to sit down and blog about my progress thus far with planning
our wedding. Let’s just say time is
flying! Oh my goodness...I cannot believe
it’s already March. With just six months
to go, I definitely have a lot more work to do.
My excitement is starting to build, and I am definitely becoming a bit
more anxious by the day!!
January:
Wedding Dress – Check!
(You can read about the few details that I shared here.
Bridal Party Dresses – I began online
browsing looking at several styles for my bridal party. I promised the ladies at the beginning of my journey
that I would find a dress option that was affordable and can be re-worn. I felt that these two things were really
important. I mean let’s be honest, the
last thing anyone wants to do is buy an expensive dress that can only be worn
once (especially a dress they did not pick out themselves). So during my search process I kept all of
these factors in mind.
I started my search out at
David’s Bridal. I will admit, at first I
was opposed to going to DB, due to me not liking their dress styles. I did not want to automatically rule out DB
from the beginning, as I realized people go there for a reason. In my opinion, the main reason is the price
point. DB is priced very, and. since
price was one of my main factors in my search – I headed over to DB! To my surprise, DB had quite a few options
that I liked and I felt would look great on the ladies. In addition to finding a dress that was great
price and could be worn again, I also wanted a dress that the ladies felt
comfortable wearing. I have some beautiful
ladies in my wedding party, and I wanted to ensure that their beauty would
shine bright on my big day.
After selecting a few dresses
online, I made an appointment with DB to do my first set of dress trials with
the ladies. Let me just say it was a
blast!!!! Though DB was a complete mad
house due to the weekend buzz, we had a blast.
Our wedding consultant was great as well. Not only did he provide me with some great
input on the dresses, he also sang and danced along to Prince with one of the
girls. Talk about customer
service!!
All-in-all it was a great first
run at the store with the ladies, but unfortunately I was unable to settle one
which of the dresses I liked yet. So for
now we will say: half-check!
Makeup Artist – Check!
I met with my makeup artist and finalized my contract and set up my
bridal trail for May. We went over the
concepts that I had in mind and started working on my vision. I cannot wait for my makeup trial, that’s
when I will start to see my vision come into play. I will give you a recap in
May on how my trial went. Stay tuned…
Cake – Check! (Yummy!) – Let me
just say I LOVE cake! Hence why I dabble
in baking every now and then. My fiancé is
a huge cake fan too. My fiancé and I
went to a few bridal showcases and tasted a few cakes; let’s just say I was not
impressed. I’m a huge critic when it
comes to cake. I am not a fan of dry
cake, or a cake that is not sweet. It
does not have to be over the top sweet, but that perfect mix.
I was feeling a bit defeated on
the cake front since these vendors were supposed to be ‘the best of the best’
in the area.
I did not want to give up hope
as early on in the process I was contacted by one cake vendor inquiring as to
whether or not I wanted to set up a cake tasting. I explained to the vendor that I had not
reached the cake tasting part of the planning and would follow up with them
early in the year. I especially liked
how the vendor respected my wishes, and did not continue to send me promotional
deals. (I will have to write-up another posting
on how I feel about over advertising. – Let’s just say I am not a fan.)
Since I was not particularly impressed
with the cakes that I tasted the showcase, I took my search to Wedding
Wire. I also decided to follow up with
the one cake vendor that reached out to me late last year (as I told her I
would). After reaching out and setting up
our cake tasting appointment, I went and read her reviews. Let me just say
there were great, and her cakes were gorgeous! My fiancé and I went and tasted her cakes one
evening during the week, and let me just say the cakes were so GOOD!!! We instantly knew that we found our cake vendor. She also gave us great insight on our cake
design and overall cake concept. So far
we are definitely happy with our cake vendor selection.
February:
Guest list – All finalized! Talk about a major task! I cannot tell you how many times I have gone
through the guest list up and down, checking to make sure I did not miss
anyone. The guest list is a very
important aspect of our wedding. Our
guest list determined our budget, our location, and so forth. My fiancé and I decided early on in the
process that we would have a medium sized wedding with no more than 125 guest
(this number includes guest of guest). Oddly enough we are right on target with
our guest list and below our max number.
Woo-hoo!
Save-the date – Check!
After a month or so of off-and-on again hard work, my fiancé and I
completed our DIY Save the dates. It was
such a fun experience coming up with the concept and creating our vision
together. Check out how we did our –DIY
Save the dates here. Let me just say it’s such a huge sigh
of relief to have the save-the-dates out the door and in the mail! I had the biggest smile on my face at the
post office, and a bigger one once they processed everything. LOL
DJ – Check! My fiancé and I spoke with a few DJ’s at the
bridal showcase that we attended in January.
I can definitely say that there are a lot of good DJ companies in the area;
it was just a matter of finding one that suited our needs (in addition to fitting into our budget). Music is a key factor for the wedding, so we
had to find someone that could grasp our concept and vision. All-in-all after
an extensive search we were able to select our DJ vendor for your wedding.
Bridal Party Dresses - Yes, I know…
You guessed it; I still was trying to figure out the dresses for the
ladies. The one thing I failed to
mention above is that I gave the ladies ‘timeline’. Within this ‘timeline’ I gave them a time
frame as to when they should expect my decision on the dresses. As I am a deadline driven person, I wanted to
make sure I stayed on track and on schedule.
After my first visit to DB I
went back online to search for a few more options. Let me just say the second time around, I
found the dresses that I really liked!
The girls looked great. I started
out with one dress and went the complete opposite direction. The girls loved their dresses and this made
me happy. The price point was good, and
the dresses were liked. So we definitely had a win-win situation going on.
So now I can safely say…..CHECK!!!!
So there you have it! I’ve been extremely busy over the past few
months. I was able to accomplish a lot in such a short time span. Though I love to plan, there comes a time
when you do not want to incur planning overload. So every now and then it’s good to treat
yourself to a break. So that is exactly
what I did….
Hope you enjoyed taking a sneak
peek inside my wedding planning world, until the next one!
Xoxo,
L.B
